The suits were brought not by women seeking an out-of-state abortion but rather by groups that intend to help them. Collectively, he wrote, the groups receive as many as 95 inquiries each week asking about the availability of out-of-state abortions. Even before the Supreme Court overturned Roe in 2022, abortion rights groups warned that some states might attempt to limit out-of-state travel for the procedure. “This is the world Dobbs created – one of intense interstate conflict.”The Supreme Court’s majority opinion in Dobbs didn’t deal with out-of-state travel. “For example, may a state bar a resident of that State from traveling to another state to obtain an abortion?

(AP) — Nebraska authorities said they don't expect any lingering problems related to Thursday's explosion of a railroad shipping container carrying an acid used to make explosives because the chemical largely burned off and any residue was contained at the scene. No one was injured in the blast at Union Pacific's massive railyard in North Platte, and no structures were damaged. But Thursday's incident in the Union Pacific railyard was nothing like that. He said the other container that burned in the fire likely contained memory foam — not another hazardous chemical. Union Pacific was able to continue operating part of the railyard throughout the incident, and full operations resumed after the fire was extinguished Thursday evening.

An Arizona judge on Tuesday rejected Democratic Governor-elect Katie Hobbs’s request to sanction defeated Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake over her failed effort to overturn the state’s election results. The suit was rejected by the Superior Court in Maricopa County on Saturday. Hobbs had asked the court to award her over $600,000 to compensate for fees and expenses accrued in defending against Lake’s lawsuit. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson said in Tuesday’s ruling that Lake’s claims in the lawsuit were not groundless. The lawsuit had targeted Hobbs, who is currently Arizona’s secretary of state and becomes governor next week, along with top officials in Maricopa County.

Thompson told the New York Times in an interview that he would not rule out seeking contempt of Congress charges against the former president. The subpoena ordered Trump to submit documents to the panel by Nov. 4 and for him to appear for deposition testimony beginning on or about Nov. 14.

CNN —For just the second time in World Series history, a no-hitter has been thrown as four Houston Astros pitchers completed the feat against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night to win 5-0 and secure their place in baseball lore. Cristian Javier started Game 4 in the series for the Astros, tossing six innings of no-hit ball, striking out nine and walking two. The only previous no-hitter in 118 years of World Series history is Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series. The Astros now hold the distinction of throwing the first combined no-hitter in postseason history, according to Major League Baseball. The only other no-hitter in postseason history was tossed by Roy Halladay for the Phillies in the 2010 National League Divisional Series.
